Flora & Fauna

Hello february you gorgeous thing!

cardigan & necklace - J. Crew, tee - Hello Apparel, jeans - A&F, shoes & watch - Target

We're six days into february and things are looking good! V is sleeping seven to eight hours a night (YES!!!), it's finally warming up a bit and you guys Valentine's day is next week!! I haven't always been crazy about Valentine's day but for some reason this year I find myself really looking forward to it. Any reason to celebrate right?! And I suppose what could be better than celebrating mushy, gushy, soft and fluffy LOVE?! My heart garland has been up, I have cupcakes with little hearts on them and V and I are planning on sending out some valentines (essentially photos of her but what could be better???).

So far I like February. A lot. Now I just need to find some peonies or ranunculus... Which is easier said than done in a town where carnations rule the roost. Wish me luck!

P.S. I still hate conversation heart candy. It tastes like chalk. Can we make Cadbury creme eggs the new official Valentine's day candy? So much sexier in my opinion.

Valentina's Nursery

I finally got around to taking some photos of V's nursery. Part of the reason I waited so long is because I left things pretty open ended before her birth since we didn't know if we would be having a boy or girl. Once she arrived and we got a better sense of her personality I added some pieces that I thought would work well.

I suppose you could say my main inspiration for her room were nurseries in Russia when I was growing up. I wanted it to be reminiscent of Russian homes in the late 70's and 80's. What that meant was fairly simple furniture and the addition of color through toys, linens and pictures. With a little ingenuity I was able to get pretty close to that idea by using a lot of black and white, lace and vintage linens.

Here are the details in case you may be interested:

Dresser, changing table, rocking chair, rug, & curtains - Ikea, foot stool, lamps & pillows - Target, crib - Amazon, yellow linens - Land of Nod, chevron blanket, books, globe & animal heads - thrifted, My Roots Lie Here print - My Roots Etsy shop, moose print - Society6, Russian toys & books - Ruskniga

Cold days call for cupcakes

This weekend was pretty laid back - just lots of sleeping, eating and trying to stay warm. They promised snow all week and yet all I saw were a sad snowflake or two drifting past our windows. I mean with temperatures this cold it could at least snow right?!! Luckily we had grandma's waffle maker which provided us with a never ending stream of delicious toasty waffles all weekend long. I also finally made those Sprinkles cupcakes I've been meaning to make since the end of December. And my goodness were they delicious. I've tried several of the Sprinkles mixes and these are hands down my favorite (you put real chocolate in the frosting... I mean wow!!).

We also discovered this weekend that Birdie can do a darn good job of holding her head up and doesn't hate tummy time! Go V!!

My maternity leave is over today (sad) but! It's February, it's almost Valentines day and Birdie will officially be two months old in exactly one week! So it's all good!

Wishing you a fantastic week!
